A beginners guide to starting calisthenics at any age

Calisthenics comes from the ancient Greek word kalos, which means “beauty”, and sthenos, meaning “strength”. It is the art of using one’s body weight and qualities of inertia as a means to develop one’s physique.

Get in touch with your primal self! Calisthenics is the oldest form of working out. Before there was a squat rack, a flat bench, or dumbbells, mankind used their own body weight as a resistance training, primarily for survival and hunting.

They are intended to increase body strength, body fitness and flexibility through movements such as pushing, pulling, jumping, swinging, twisting or kicking, using only one’s body weight for resistance. They are usually conducted in concert with stretches. When performed with intensity and with variety, calisthenics can provide the benefits of muscular and aerobic conditioning, in addition to improving motor skills such as balance, agility and coordination.

When it comes to a test of strength and physical abilities, calisthenics is often used as a baseline physical evaluations for many military organizations, such as the U.S.M.C. Army Physical Test.

Functional Training is the name of the game! You should be able to move your body and have control over your own body weight. To top it off you can do calisthenics without any equipment or minimum equipment required. NO EXCUSES!!

Having a sensible healthy diet that is SUSTAINABLE is very important. We are not here to push any crazy diet plan that is going to take up all your time just to plan your meals and count all your calories. We all live busy lives, and adding that chore can sometimes give you an excuse to quit your fitness plan.

Instead we try to instill the characteristics of hard work, dedication, accountability, and INTENSITY into your fitness journey.

It’s pretty basic, if you want to lose weight then burn more calories than you intake everyday! If you want to gain size then, eat more calories than you burn! Sounds simple right? It’s not quite as simple as that. The quality of the calories you intake matter, but that can be discussed later.
